We live in a world where ‘fakery’ is the in-thing. People want to project what they are not; people want to show off what they don’t have. People are more concerned about gaining the respect of strangers on Instagram and facebook, rather than focusing on what they could become if they dedicate that much energy to pursuing success while living their reality. People want the world to know they drive the best cars, live in the best suburbs, and can speak Prada fluently. People want the world to see them as people with no problems – “Hakuna Matata” Many people are not living their reality, hence they cannot move forward. It is difficult to move forward in life when you’ve lost touch with where you really are.
Living your reality means ‘staying in your lane’. It means knowing where you are and accepting it without the need to pretend or lie to others in a bid to feel respected. Living your reality means understanding the phase you are, and working towards your next goal. In this fast-paced world, living your reality especially when things are not exactly rosy can be emotionally draining. It is easier to escape into fantasy and ignore whatever may be spinning out of control. It is easier to pretend things are rosy but that will not solve anything. Learn to live through your reality; face whatever you are going through head-on. If people cannot respect you for facing your issues, then you don’t need such people in your life. Stop pretending to be what you are not in a bid to make other people comfortable around you. You are not required to set yourself on fire to keep others warm. And ‘others’ include the voices in your head that constantly tell you “you are not good enough”.
